3 Interesting iOS 11 Updates to Complement iPhone 8 by September,2017

Apple fans are patiently waiting for the surprise that the successor of iOS 10 may offer. Just weeks away from Apple's annual World Wide Developer Conference, enthusiasts are already talking about the potential improvements and changes that the operating system update will cover.

Apart from the Guest Mode and Dark Mode, the most feasible change that will come with iOS 11 would be Siri having a new voice and exciting features, according to Value Walk. It can be remembered that Siri's voice did not undergo any significant change since its introduction back in 2011.

Such change has been considered by many as a great possibility, and may likely happen this year. The said change has been associated with Apple's step to collaborate with a team based in Cambridge U.K to change the AI support's voice.

In the multimedia and communication department, iOS will likely give more emphasis on FaceTime group video chat. The lack of such feature has been a source of frustration for most sophisticated user since Skype and Google Hangouts already have such feature.

In order to appease the customer, the company might choose to include such feature on the successor of iPhone 10. Therefore, making the upcoming iOS and iPhone more competitive to other platforms and devices.

Moreover, the negative side of the update may likely include the abandoning of Apple support for the 32-Bit Apps. This effect is part of Apple's way of moving all their iOS devices to a 64-bit architecture, according to Express.

However, these updates regardless of how exciting or less welcoming, it should be taken with a grain of salt. No official and final confirmation yet came from Apple concerning their upcoming iOS 11 updates.

iOS 11 Beta Download and Activate

iOS 10 isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Apple recently released its iOS 10.2.1 update and the company’s confirmed a much larger iOS 10.3 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The iOS 10.3 update is in beta ahead of a release later this year.

While most people are focused on iOS 10.2.1 and iOS 10.3, others are looking ahead into the future. iOS 11 rumors have started to emerge and they’ve generated some buzz amongst iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users.

The iOS 11 update isn’t confirmed, far from it, but there are a few things we think you should be aware of as we push deeper into the year.

This iOS 11 release roundup covers some of the basics including the potential iOS 11 launch date and the iOS 11 release date. It also takes a look at the devices that could be left behind on iOS 10 and some of the early rumors.

We’ll continue to add new information about the iOS 11 release to this roundup so check back for regular updates throughout the year.

iOS 11 Launch Date

Apple hasn’t announced an iOS 11 launch date yet but it’s easy to predict when we’ll see the company unveil its next operating system.

For several years now, Apple’s announced new iOS software during its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) keynote.

The company recently confirmed its WWDC 2017 dates so we now have an exact date in mind for the iOS 11 launch.

WWDC 2017 is set for early June.
WWDC 2017 is confirmed for early June with dates stretching from June 5th to June 9th. The event is moving from San Francisco to San Jose.

June 5th is the date to circle on the calendar because that is when Apple should deliver its annual keynote. Apple typically confirms new iOS software, dates, and betas during its WWDC keynote announcement.

If you want to attend the event and see the iOS 11 launch live, note that tickets will be offered by random selection for $1,599.

Apple’s WWDC 2017 ticket lottery registration opens up on Monday, March 27 at 10:00AM Pacific for members of the Apple Developer Program and Apple Developer Enterprise Program.

To register, you must be a member of the Apple Developer Program or Apple Developer Enterprise Program as of February 16, 5:30AM Pacific. Your membership must also be in good standing with Apple.

iOS 11 Beta

Apple typically releases an iOS beta shortly after the conclusion of its WWDC keynote so it’s safe to assume the company will release an iOS 11 beta in June.

We expect the iOS 11 beta to mirror last year’s iOS 10 beta with a release for two different groups of testers.

Look for the iOS 11 beta to come to paid developers first before shipping out to those in the free Beta Software Program.

Apple’s beta software program is free for anyone with a working Apple ID and it lets the public test new iOS features and performance ahead of the official release date.

iOS 11 Release Date

Like the iOS 11 launch date, the iOS 11 release date is fairly predictable.

Apple hasn’t confirmed a specific iOS 11 release date and its WWDC announcement will probably come and go without a firm date.

That said, you can expect the iOS 11 release date to land sometime in the fall alongside Apple’s new iPhone models.

The iPhone 8 is expected in September and you can expect the iOS 11 update to get certified and released shortly before its released.

Before iOS 11 arrives, we’ll get at least one more milestone upgrade to Apple’s iOS 10 operating system.

Apple is currently testing an iOS 10.3 update and it’s expected to debut alongside new hardware in March.

The iOS 10.3 update will deliver a new Find My AirPods function, performance improvements, bug fixes, and more.

Will My Device Get iOS 11?

“Will my phone get iOS 11” is becoming a common question amongst our friends, family and our readers. Apple hasn’t confirmed anything yet but it’s fairly easy to predict which devices will get iOS 11 and which ones may not.

Apple’s most recent iPhones and iPads are in. If you own an iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPad Pro, or iPad mini 4, there’s nothing to worry about. You’ll get iOS software updates for a couple more years at least.

There are, however, a few devices that are on the fence. The iPhone 5, Apple’s aging former flagship, is one such device.

Last year, Apple left the iPhone 4s on iOS 10.3.5 and we could see the iPhone 5 left behind on the last version of iOS 10.

Apple also left the original iPad mini and iPad 2 behind which means the iPad mini 2 is on the potential cut list for iOS 11.

Other popular devices like the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPad Air, and iPad mini 3 should be safe.

iOS 11 Update

As for the iOS 11 update itself, details are scarce.

A report from Business Insider claims Apple is planning to add “augmented reality technology into the iPhone’s camera app.”

Apple is reportedly exploring AR and mixed reality but it’s unclear if they will make it to the iPhone and iOS in 2017.

facetime feature in  iOS 11
One questionable rumor from Israeli site The Verifier suggests Apple will be baking Group FaceTime calls into iOS 11. The report cites “several people familiar with iOS development.”

The feature will reportedly allow iOS 11 users to start multi-person calls via a group conversation in iMessage with up to five people allowed in on the call.

The site notes that while Apple is working on the feature, it could opt not to release it on iOS 11 and save it for a future update.

Another rumored iOS 11 feature is far more believable.

iPhone and iPad users testing the iOS 10.3 beta have discovered a warning message when trying to run 32-bit applications.

The message in iOS 10.3 says these apps “will not work with future versions of iOS” and that the developer will need to release an update for them to continue running properly.

The apps still work with iOS 10.3 which means we could see Apple shut the door on older apps with the release of iOS 11 later this year.

Another possibility? A full-fledged Dark Mode.

The feature, which briefly emerged in the iOS 10 beta, didn’t make it into iOS 10’s final release in September but there’s a chance Apple revives it with iOS 11.

The first thing to get excited about is that you won't have to wait too much longer for iOS 10.3 to arrive for your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

If you're uninterested in trying out the iOS 10.3 beta, or if you're dealing with an maddening problem on iOS 10.2.1 on an older version of iOS, you should know that the iOS 10.3 release date should land in the near future.

We haven't been able to nail down an exact date but we now know it'll be out before the end of April.

Apple's announced a new Clips application (more on that later) that it's planning to release sometime during the month of April. How does the iOS 10.3 release play into this? Well, iOS 10.3 is required to use the Clips app.

iOS 11 compatibility
iOS 10.3 is also required to use one of the new features on board iTunes 12.6.

iTunes 12.6 features a "Rent once, watch anywhere" that allows iTunes users to watch their movie rentals across all devices. This feature requires iOS 10.3 to operate, a sign that we're really, really close to a release.

If not March, we'll probably see it touch down sometime in early April.

iOS 11 in iPhone

iOS 11 New Features - latest rumours

iOS 11: The End of 32-Bit Support?
The arrival of iOS 11 could spell bad news for those running 32-bit iPhones. Apple might stop supporting 32-bit applications inside iOS 11, meaning those with anything older than an iPhone 5s WILL NOT be able to download the software.

Notes inside Apple’s iOS 10.3 beta build have warned developers that iOS 11 will stop supporting 32-bit altogether. Apple has been leaning on developers for the last couple of builds of iOS, but it now seems as if the period of support for 32-bit is coming to and end.

“Apps that aren't updated to support 64-bit likely will be culled from the App Store,” reports Inq. “Last year, the company had pledged to remove apps that were orphaned, outdated, no longer met guidelines, or were in some way borked if they remained as was after 7 September.”

"Apple’s decision to drop support for 32-bit apps in iOS 11 later this year could kill about 187,000 apps, based on a new report that shows some old apps have been slow to catch up," reports CoM.

It added: "Analytics firm Sensor Tower estimates about 8% of all apps on the App Store will become obsolete. That small percentage may sound insignificant, but old games might be impacted the most.:

Basically: if you’re running an iPhone 5 or lower, it might be time to upgrade.

iOS 11 New Feature: iCloud Voicemail Will Leave Beta

Though it’s not heavily promoted, there’s a feature in iOS 10 that transcribes voicemail messages you receive and then show you the transcribed message with a tap of a button. As BI says: “Apple's proposed solution is both incredibly simple and incredibly clever: People like to leave voicemails (it's often quicker to orally deliver your information than it is to type it in a text message). But they don't like to receive voicemails (it's a lot quicker to read a text than it is to listen to the person talking to you). The new product will also bridge a generation gap: Older users like voicemails. Young people do not.” Right now, the feature doesn’t work too well, which is why Apple has the “BETA” label slapped all over it. Yet they are certainly to make it work much better, so expect it to be a key feature in iOS 11.

iOS 11 New Feature: Improved Maps Using Drone Data

Another possible inclusion in iOS 11 is continued improvement to its Maps app. Bloomberg has come out with a report saying that Apple is set to start using a fleet of drones to get better mapping data in hopes of catching up with Google.

“Apple Inc. plans to use drones and new indoor navigation features to improve its Maps service and catch longtime leader Google, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Cupertino, California-based company is assembling a team of robotics and data-collection experts that will use drones to capture and update map information faster than its existing fleet of camera-and-sensor ladened minivans, one of the people said.

Apple wants to fly drones around to do things like examine street signs, track changes to roads and monitor if areas are under construction, the person said. The data collected would be sent to Apple teams that rapidly update the Maps app to provide fresh information to users, the person added.”

But beyond street level data, Apple also wants to improve indoor mapping too:

“Apple is also developing new features for Maps, including views inside buildings and improvements to car navigation, another person familiar with the efforts said. The people asked not to be identified talking about private projects. An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment.”

iOS 11 New Feature: Snapchat-like Video Sharing App

iOS 11 could also see Apple try to directly take on Instagram and Snapchat with a new social media app that lets users share video, another Bloomberg report says.

“Apple Inc., seeking to capitalize on the popularity of social networks, is developing a video sharing and editing application and is testing new related features for its iPhone and iPad operating systems.

The early plans are part of a newly directed focus to integrate social networking applications within Apple’s mobile products and are a response to the success of social media-focused companies such as Facebook Inc. and Snapchat Inc., according to people familiar with Apple’s strategy.”

“Now Apple is starting to develop a video sharing app that allows users to record video, apply filters and drawings to the media -- much like Snapchat does -- and send it to contacts or via existing social networks such as Twitter Inc., according to the people familiar with its development. The software is currently being designed to be used mostly with one hand and with the intention that video could be shot, edited, and uploaded in less than 1 minute, the people said. At least one of the prototype designs for the app would shoot video in an Instagram-like square shape, one of the people said.”

iOS 11 New Feature: Contact Availability Status

A patent reveals iOS 10 might be able to show us when our friends are available and when they are away. As MacWorld notes, the patent could be “summarised as a system that detects where your friends are, and whether they're available and the operating status of their iPhone (such as silent or Airplane mode), and presents that information in the Contacts app. If you're thinking that has the whiff of surveillance about it - well, it does, but only to the same extent as Find My Friends, and it would presumably be optional for both parties.”

iOS 11 New Feature: More Natural Sounding Siri

Apple will also apparently look to improve Siri in iOS 11. This Siri update will feature a more natural sounding voice, however. Apple reportedly has a team in Cambridge working to make Siri sound more natural as a source told Business Insider: ”Those working inside are aiming to make Siri talk more naturally, according to a source that knows a number of Apple's Cambridge employees.”

iOS 11 New Feature: Dark Mode

Dark Mode already exists in iOS 10, but it just hasn’t been unlocked to allow people to access it. This probably means Apple thought it wasn’t ready for prime time when iOS 10 was released. But as Apple has recently been more receptive to dark modes (the Apple TV has it now), expect to see Dark Mode to be a big feature in iOS 11.

Other New Features in iOS 11

1. There is no fear of blocking the large area of the screen volume can be moved to the status bar, so that will not affect our visual effects

2. Raise the picture-in-picture to the system level so that the video can be played at any location

3. Want to be able to encrypt a single application, need to use their own fingerprints to unlock, and you can hide do not want to see the application

4. You can set a clear all the running app button, obsessive-compulsive disorder really can not stand a clear, be a convenient function
